The twelve participating teams for the Cable & Wireless Worldwide Hong Kong Women’s Rugby Sevens 2010 (HKWRS) have been announced today by the tournament organizers.  The event will be held on Friday March 26, 2010 at the Hong Kong Football Club with the Cup final being played at 7.04pm in the Hong Kong Stadium as part of the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens 2010.

Last weekend at the Wellington Sevens, the third leg of the IRB World Seven’s Series, 28 year old Harry Mason from Singapore made his debut as a referee at the highest level of the abbreviated game.

The Guinness Singapore Rugby Club Women’s Sevens 2010 kicked off the women’s rugby season for 2010 at Yio Chu Kang Stadium last Saturday.

It was not all going to be business as usual given an interesting line-up of teams this year: Bucks RFC fielded two teams in the 7s tournament for the first time; SRC and NUS were making their debuts at the national club 7s; Blacks RFC's two teams had an even spread of experience and youth.

The Bali Memorial Match pits the best players from all four Premiership teams against each other, in this annual North/South tussle.

Welcome to Rugby in Singapore. With the sport being played in many of the schools and thriving men’s and women’s leagues Singapore is one of the strongholds of rugby in the region.

The national men’s team has competed in the Asian 5 Nations Top Five in 2009 and the women’s national team is currently ranked 4th in Asia.

The Singapore Sevens held in November is the regions premier international club tournament.

      The season is off and running in Singapore and it’s Cricket Club and the Bucks that have drawn first blood in the Guinness Premiership. Cricket Club were supremely dominant in the pre-season Guinness Singapore Cup and the most noteworthy thing about this match-up is how much of a game Wanderers made of it. Less than a month ago an admittedly under strength Wanderers got trounced 45-6 and conceded seven tries in the process, but on Saturday at the Padang they were only outscored four tries to three and stayed within thirteen points.

    South African Vipers took the top spot in the Albitt Cup as the reigning champions after edging out Fiji’s Davetelavu  in a thrilling finish to the 62nd Singapore Cricket Club Rugby 7s 2009. They beat the Fijians in a score of 24-0 when the final whistle blew.

  • Kazakhstan Completes Women’s Rugby World Cup 2010 Field

    Kazakhstan is the 12th and final team to qualify for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2010 after beating Japan 43-5 today in Singapore.  Hong Kong beat Singapore 16-3 in the curtain-raiser to take third place overall in the Asian Women’s XVs.

    The fight to determine Asia’s sole entry to the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England in 2010 has narrowed to two teams after today’s first round of the Women’s Rugby World Cup Quarterfinals 2010 in Singapore. Japan the second seeds in the qualification tournament, eased by the hosts 35-11 in the opener today, while Kazakhstan routed Hong Kong 58-14.

    The qualifying games for the twelfth and final place in the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2010 will start today in Singapore. Two semi-finals will take place at the Republic Polytechnic, with the winners playing each other on Friday at the Padang, for the honour of representing Asia in England next August.
