The twelve participating teams for the Cable & Wireless Worldwide Hong Kong Women’s Rugby Sevens 2010 (HKWRS) have been announced today by the tournament organizers. The event will be held on Friday March 26, 2010 at the Hong Kong Football Club with the Cup final being played at 7.04pm in the Hong Kong Stadium as part of the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens 2010.

South African Vipers took the top spot in the Albitt Cup as the reigning champions after edging out Fiji’s Davetelavu in a thrilling finish to the 62nd Singapore Cricket Club Rugby 7s 2009. They beat the Fijians in a score of 24-0 when the final whistle blew.

The Thai women’s team gave nigh on a faultless display of sevens rugby last weekend, with a level of skill and a tactics superior to some of the men’s team competing in the Asian Rugby Sevens Series.
Welcome to Rugby in Malaysia. Rugby was introduced to the former British colony of Malaya in the late nineteenth century.
In the early years the game was only played by expatriates, however in 1921 local players became involved, a national union was formed and the sport has seen a steady growth ever since.
There are sixteen unions, associations and councils affiliated to the Malaysian Rugby Union with over 10,000 active players representing more than 300 clubs and 600 schools throughout the entire country.
In 2009 the national men’s team won promotion to Division 1 of the Asian 5 Nations and the women’s national team competed for the first time at the Asian Women’s Sevens Championships.
Malaysia is home to one of the oldest sevens tournament in Asia, the Jonah Jones Rugby Sevens Tournament which has been hosted by the Royal Selangor Club since 1963.

October has been a great month for Rugby in general and sevens in particular. The Olympics finally welcomed back rugby into its fold, and with that a new spate of tournaments opened in Asia with the ARFU Asian Rugby Sevens Circuit.

Japan gained revenge over Shanghai Sevens champions Korea, in a tight cup semi-final and then gave a polished performance against an injury ridden Hong Kong in the final to lift the Borneo Sevens Cup and top the Asian Rugby Sevens Series ranking table after the two qualifying tournaments.
