Last year’s 4th Bledisloe Cup match, played in Hong Kong, between the Wallabies and the All Blacks netted both unions millions of dollars in much needed additional income and for that reason above any of the other more philanthropic suggestions, Asian rugby fans will have the opportunity to see two of the three highest ranked teams in the world battle it out in Tokyo’s National Stadium on 31st October 2009.
The arch rivals will meet to play the fourth and final game of the series and hopefully this time round, unlike the Hong Kong game, it will not be a dead rubber. New Zealand, as holders only need to win two matches to retain the trophy which they have won on 36 occasions of the 48 times it has been contested and they are already one to the good, having edged Australia 22-16 in Auckland last Saturday.
The second game will be played in Sydney at the ANZ Stadium on 22nd August 2009, and the third at the Westpac Stadium, Wellington on 19th September 2009.
The final game in the 57,000 seater stadium, will precede the teams’ annual tours to play their Northern hemisphere cousins in November.
