Bali Rugby Club

Rugby in Bali traces its roots back to 1995 when a group of Bali expats and visitors formed a team to participate in the the annual Bali 10’s Rugby tournament,lead by the Sutherland brothers Hamish & Sandy,the team a mixture of surfers and UWA players which took its name from its Mambo sponsored boxer shorts with a chicken motif,hence the team was known as the Bali Chooks.

Jakarta Banteng Rugby Club

Jakarta Banteng Rugby Club (JBRC) was established in 2004 by a group of Indonesian citizens. One of the founders was Andrew Nugroho who is the current President of the Indonesian Rugby Football Union (IRFU).

Sorowako Rugby Club

Established in 2007, the Sorowako Rugby Club is a relative new comer to the Indonesian rugby scene. The men’s senior team, known as the Matano Miners, competes against other Indonesian clubs in local tournaments such as the Jakarta 10s and Bali 10s. There is also an annual grudge match played every Easter against the Bali Stiff Chilli’s, with the winner claiming rights to the Bali – Sulawesi Inter-Island trophy.
