Army Red wins third straight All India

Army Red won the All India and South Asia Cup for the third consecutive year on Saturday. The first half was a tightly fought contest, but the Army team always looked to have the edge. In the 17th minute a converted Parvinder Singh try gave Army a 7-0 lead and that is how the score remained until the break.

The Uzbeks who have performed admirably on tour looked visibly jaded and this coupled with the step-up in class of opposition, began to take its toll as the game wore on. Further tries from Sujav Lama, Charanjit Singh and Rohit Singh, two of them converted pushed the score out to 26-0 and despite Uzbekistan digging deep and trying their utmost to claw their way back into the game, it was to be a fruitless effort.

Army Red are far and away the premier team in Indian rugby and the national team coaches, who were present at the game, will surely be building their team for next years Asian Five Nations campaign around this club.
