How do you celebrate the life of a larger than life character? You go out and do what he loved doing best and play a game of rugby - or 3 as would be the case for Nick VP. So it seemed fitting that Kowloon Beavers, the last league team that Nick played for before leaving HK, should bear witness to his many appearances by donning blond wigs of every stripe to commemorate him. And there could not be a more fitting venue than the Police Club at Police Boundary Street where we last played together.

This year’s IRB Sevens World Series is among the most evenly contested ever with the four tournaments played to date having been won by three different teams: New Zealand, Fiji and Samoa. Adding to the excitement, the Official Draw for the largest tournament on the Series, the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens, was held this evening in Hong Kong. As the only 24-team event on the circuit, the results of tonight’s draw - and the 30 series points that go to the Cup champions in Hong Kong - could be the crucial factor in determining the Series champions in 2010.

After allowing visiting DeA Tigers the luxury of a 12-0 lead at the half hour point, Valley seized control of their fixture and did not relinquish this until they had added 49 unanswered points and collected the Hong Kong Division1title once again.

There is no doubt about it, Causeway Bay Rams are improving. Saturday’s 29-6 home defeat at the hands of league leaders Valley may not seem like much to shout about, but when you consider that a short few months ago they shipped 98 points against the same opposition, you can gauge the magnitude of their recent improvement in form.

A convincing win for Valley, who visit bottom of the table Causeway Bay Rams on Saturday, will put them one step closer to securing the 1st Division title this season. Although the Rams have shown considerable improvement recently, the idea of them troubling Valley is unworthy of discussion. The reverse fixture earlier in the season saw 98 unanswered points scored; we may not see that margin of defeat, but we predict one-way traffic.

Have Club given up the chase already? For the second week running they failed to pick up a bonus point against teams at the foot of the division. Saturdays 17-0 victory at home over Cricket Club, with only two tries in the first period and a complete blank-out in the second half, has allowed Valley to open a further one point gap without even donning their boots.
