The twelve participating teams for the Cable & Wireless Worldwide Hong Kong Women’s Rugby Sevens 2010 (HKWRS) have been announced today by the tournament organizers. The event will be held on Friday March 26, 2010 at the Hong Kong Football Club with the Cup final being played at 7.04pm in the Hong Kong Stadium as part of the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens 2010.

The visiting Zhudi Monks inflicted a heavy defeat on Nantong Tigers last weekend and are now two points clear at the top of the Shanghai Bei League. This massive 86-0 victory comes on the back of a handy 29-5 win at Shanghai Sports Institute and the Monks would almost certainly win the title if they can record a third away victory in consecutive weeks.
Welcome to Rugby in China. Rugby is a relatively new sport in China. The first domestic club, the China Agricultural University Rugby Club was formed in 1990.
Since then the sport has become popular in universities and the military. The national team are traditionally stronger in sevens than fifteens where they play in the Asian 5 Nations Division 2.
The women’s national sevens team are the current Asian champions and won the bowl at the 2009 Women’s Rugby World Cup Sevens.
There are numerous expatriate teams in cities throughout China.

Entering the final stretch of the Shanghai Bei League 2009 Shanghai Hermit Crabs and Zhudi Monks are locked together at the top of the table. The Hermit Crabs, who replaced their club’s first team the Hairy Crabs in the competition this season, are one point clear of the Monks courtesy of one extra bonus point. They have however played one more game than the Monks and therefore the match between the two teams on Saturday November 28th is absolutely crucial and one that could ultimately decide the championship. Their first game this season was won by the Monks 48-28.

Japan gained revenge over Shanghai Sevens champions Korea, in a tight cup semi-final and then gave a polished performance against an injury ridden Hong Kong in the final to lift the Borneo Sevens Cup and top the Asian Rugby Sevens Series ranking table after the two qualifying tournaments.

Over the weekend of September 12th and 13th, rugby fans in Shanghai were treated to a high energy rugby bonanza. The inaugural IRB Asian Rugby Sevens Series - Shanghai Sevens tournament was held out at the Shanghai Rugby Football Club over the weekend, drawing nearly 2,000 people over the two days. With 9 international teams, 16 club teams 2 women's teams and 2 veterans’ teams taking part in the games, the tournament was the largest rugby event ever held in Shanghai.

Macau rugby club’s first team, Macau 1 beat seven rival teams to win the cup in the men’s division of the SJM Macau Beach Rugby Tournament at Hac Sa Beach, Macau last Saturday, while the women’s competition was won by Hong Kong Valley Pink Ladies.

Korea beat its fiercest rugby rival Japan twice in the past 24 hours to take the gold medal at the first ever Asian Rugby Sevens Series event, the Shanghai Sevens, held yesterday and today at the Shanghai Rugby Club. In the 3rd/4th place decider Hong Kong topped Chinese Taipei 24-10.

Rugby fans will witness an intensely fast and furious Rugby Sevens tournament in Shanghai on September 12th and 13th. As part of the IRB’s ongoing plan to develop rugby in China, this event has been sanctioned by the International Rugby Board (IRB), the Asian Rugby Football Union, the Chinese Rugby Football Association and the Shanghai Sports Bureau. National teams from the leading rugby regions in Asia will participate, including teams from China, Japan, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei and Singapore. The event will be held at the Shanghai Rugby Football Club with doors opening at 8:00am on both Saturday and Sunday.
