The Hangzhou Harlequins were founded in 2006 by Simon Whitton, a British expatriate on assignment in Hangzhou. The mission, then as now, was to encourage both foreigners and Chinese nationals to come together to learn about and play rugby while having fun, overcoming the transient nature of the expatriate community and any language barriers.

Nanjing Rugby Football Club was established in 1999 by Mr. Hong You Ping and Mr. Zhang Shi Ling at the Nanjing Sports Institute. At that time rugby was not being played within the Jiangsu Province, China. Mr. Xu Li Tian was Secretary of the club and it was he who organised training four times per week.
Shanghai Rhinos Rugby Football Club was founded by coach Mr. WU Jingsong, and a bunch of enthusiasts in Autumn 1998 at Donghua University in Shanghai.
Rhinos have since developed into a local rugby community which plays in the Shanghai league. The team trains 3 times per week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and also play games on Saturdays.

The Typhoons were officially formed in January 2009 from a group of enthusiasts who had been playing touch rugby together for several years and finally decided to get their act together. Our aim was to build on a series of hugely successful pub crawls and beach parties organised in 2008, and to finally arrange an actual rugby fixture.
